Townsville Saints Set to Make History at 2024 Queensland Junior State Cup

Townsville's biggest ever contingent of junior touch footy players are on their way to Redlands, South East Queensland, poised to compete in the annual Queensland Touch Football Junior State Cup from July 4th to 6th.

The 2024 Junior State Cup, hosted at the picturesque Redland Showgrounds in Cleveland, is gearing up to be the most exhilarating event of the year for junior touch football. With over 3000 participants from more than 230 teams across Queensland, the tournament is set to showcase the best young talents from Cairns to South Tweed in a riveting 3-day event filled with intense competition and sportsmanship.

Kerrod Hall, Technical Director at Townsville Touch Football (TTF), shared his excitement about the tournament.

"This is our biggest ever contingent to compete at the Junior State Cup. The tour has come off the back of some incredible work done by the TTF Saints representative committee, who have worked tirelessly since November last year to bring this all together. Jason (Buczynsky) and the team on Saints committee should be extremely proud of what they have achieved since the inception of the Saints programme in 2022."

Buczynsky, TTF's Representative Coordinator, also expressed his pride in the hard work and dedication of both the coaches and players.

"Our coaches have been working extremely hard on their own personal development over the last few months, all with the aim of improving the standard of touch football across the park"

"Our players should also be commended for their efforts so far in the programme, because their dedication to becoming better touch football players has led them to this week's event."

The impact of the Townsville Saints Representative Programme is evident as it pioneers a new era in junior touch football. Focusing on player skill development, the programme offers young athletes extensive training and competitive opportunities, setting a new benchmark in the sport.

The tour group also includes twelve of Townsville's best and brightest young referees, under the watchful eyes of Hall who also holds the role as TTF's Referees Director.

As the teams make their final preparations, the excitement within the Townsville community is palpable. Friends, families, and supporters are rallying behind their young athletes, ready to cheer them on in what promises to be a memorable and defining weekend of top-notch touch football action.
